Hideo Date was born in Japan but spent almost his entire life in the United States and received his formal education in this country. Indeed, he was among those Japanese-Americans who spent several years in "relocation centers" during World War II merely because of their ethnic origin and even though there was no suspicion of disloyalty against any of them. Mr. Date studied art under Morga Russell and S. McDonald Wright and attended the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. He combined Oriental traditions (which he returned to Japan to study) and Western contemporary techniques and sensitivities. He has exhibited his work at museums throughout the Western part of the country and has had one-man shows in New York and at the Art Institute Of Chicago. His works are in the Los Angeles Museum and many private collections.
