He was a designer and an importer / exporter working with Gumps and other large retailers including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales. Most of this contacts were in the Orient and he spent lots of time in Japan and China in the 1950's acquiring various items. He had an affinity towards the Asian arts as reflected by this sale.
